Exciting Things on the Horizon at FLC

It’s Pastor Amy here.

I want to share a story with you…

When I was young, my grandparents took me out in their blue and white fishing boat in Canada. It was a lovely morning as we motored out of the harbor, passing the rock breakers, into the choppy emerald waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

The boat groaned as it climbed a swell and rolled down the other side. The waves startled me, so I decided to focus on what was INSIDE the boat…

Bad idea!

As I looked down at my shoes, the tackle, and the fishing poles, my stomach started lurching. I closed my eyes, but the feeling got worse.

“Grandma, I feel like I’m gonna be sick!” I said frantically.

“Keep your eyes on the horizon! Don’t look down!” she commanded.

I looked up and started focusing on the horizon line, where heaven meets ocean. Slowly, my body acclimated to the movement, the nausea passed, and I was fine the rest of the fishing trip.

Have you ever felt “earth sick”?

The storms are raging, your emotions are rolling up and down, and you feel spiritually off-balance? That’s when the Holy Spirit says, “Keep your eyes on the horizon, baby! Focus on me and don’t look down.”

It’s easy to get caught up in life on earth and forget that this is our assignment, not our forever home. If we allow this world to spook us into taking our eyes off of Jesus, we will drift away from our purpose. If we have no vision past the current situation, we will get soul sick.

Jesus is our Master, and He has power over the wind and waves. The struggle of today cannot compare to the glory and rewards of God’s plan!

We must simply have horizon eyes.

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from?
My help comes from the Lord,
the Maker of heaven and earth.
He will not let your foot slip—
he who watches over you will not slumber.”

—Psalm 121:1-3 (NIV)
